In early summer last year we took the family on a trip to the East Coast to visit Williamsburg Virginia. We stayed at a Williamsburg Plantation timeshare and the accommodations were quite good. I don’t have any real interest in owning a timeshare unit but we actually were able to rent one from an individual who was unable to make use of their allotted time and by renting their unit we were able to save a great deal of cash over the cost of only booking a hotel room for a week.
Colonial Williamsburg is a great place to visit, there is something there that everyone will find interesting. You are able to learn a great deal about the way life was back in the late 1700s and early 1800s. How people lived, a variety of trades they practiced, the clothing they wore and even the way they spoke. There are actors that walk around the town in period clothing, telling stories about how things were in those days. There is a great deal of historic architecture and anyone interested in history could spend a great deal of time in this location.
Along with each of the historical attractions there are a variety other activities to do as well. There is certainly Busch Gardens which boasts more than 50 rides and attractions and is home to the Griffin which happens to be the world’s tallest floorless dive roller coaster. There is also a large children area called Sesame Street Forest which has rides for the children as well as a large water area for the children to play in. If you like the water Williamsburg also has Water Country USA that has water slides, shopping and restaurants. It’s a cool location with a 1950s and 1960s surf theme.
After spending a couple of days in the immediate area of Williamsburg we thought it would be fun to go out to the coastline and spend a bit of time at the beach. Sad to say our peaceful trip to the beach was anything but quiet. There were also a bit of environmental groups putting on some kind of demonstration, I believe it was about dumping untreated water directly into the ocean. I don’t mind people protesting and I can even support their cause but in addition to being pretty loud they also would not leave us alone. I had 5 different people try to get me to sign the same petition to get the government to change things to avoid further polluting of the ocean. I’m not even sure they were protesting against a particular company or the government or what but whoever they were demonstrating against is probably going to need to hire a team of PR firms to help restore their reputation.
